EXCELLENT OBSERVATION, KATRINA!! You are so very correct about how throughout our history as a people, songs have been an integral part of our life experiences to encourage, motivate, and even sustain us. I vividly remember that so many of the songs by popular artists of the 60’s & 70’s spoke to the realities of the times. Over the years much of that has been lost. Sadly, I don’t feel like most of our popular music artists of today are in touch with the power that they have to make a POSITIVE impact on the social consciousness of our people and others.
